2016...
All Are Welcome...a social experiment, which has not started yet.
I live in Denver, CO. I have a purpose in Denver and on the Front Range. I have this 4 acres that my friend gave me to steward. I cannot sell it because that would mean giving it back to him - that was our agreement, so instead, I would like to make it available to all who need a place to live.
I am inviting people to come stay on the land and do work-exchange. There is fresh water about 160' down and thermal wells about 500' down. Neighbors have wells and are agreeable to making water available. There are limited building codes in Saguache County. There is no limit to how many temporary structures can be placed on land - so tiny houses, yurts, mobile vehicles, earth bag houses, earth ships, shipping container houses and livestock and greenhouses, etc are welcome. Saguache County is starting to get built up now that the pot farmers are moving in, so there is an eye on what's going on on land by the government whereas it used to be totally free.
I would like to suggest 2 acres be devoted to living and 2 acres be devoted to food.
A group forms and we use principles and consensus to come to agreement on what happens there.
The land is not lush. It has a lot of sagebrush and nice clay ground for making adobe bricks. There are no trees at the moment. There is a wind that blows down the valley that could be harnessed for electricity ... The winters are long and cold with snow. It is a valley between the Sangre de Christo Mountains and the San Juan Mountains. It is between Villa Grove, CO & Crestone, CO on Route 17. There are people who have been living up there off-grid for generations.
Crestone, and the Baca Grants are home to many earthships. Research it!
Saguache County website tells more.
It can be done, but it is not an easy place but it is one of the last real places in the USA. Joyful Journey Hot Springs is up the road about a quarter mile. Valley View Hot Springs is about 5 miles away... There is agriculture - people tapping in to the Aquafir and growing things. There is another community nearby called Earthart.org
